£1 charged to my credit card! Uhh-oh!

First thing that I do when I wake up is...........check my phone! Seriously? Is this a problem? Anyways, I noticed that there was a SMS from Citibank at 0048 hrs. If a bank needs to send you a text message I bet it is usually bad news. Anyways in my case it is bad news; "the system" has found fraudulent charges of £1 from OCADO LTD. Naturally I responded to the text message and was asked to call the bank anyways. I decided to login to Citibank online to find that there were other charges! Looks like my card info was either stolen/sold by some organisation and tested by buying something from a supermarket.

Note: I work for a non profit organisation which relies on public donations and government funding to operate our business. Our online donation website gets "tested" by stolen cards on a daily basis!

Whilst I was driving to work I called Citibank (using hands-free!), as expected I had to cancel my card and a new card will be in my mail box sometime next week. Later in the day, I had to call Citibank up because I had just brought my car in for a major service yesterday and I was meant to pick up the vehicle today! Can't settled the bill without plastic! (Yes I do have another credit card but I want my Citi points for Kris Flyer!). I decide to call the bank and ask them if there is anyway they can pay the bill for me so I can have my points and they can earn more interest should I miss my payment! Win-win right? Unfortunately the answer is NO! There is nothing they can do until I get my new card and re-activate the account. When I login to Citibank online portal now everything has been blocked!

I always thought (no proof) owning a premier/premium type of credit card enables special privileges? I remember reading somewhere that we can get a replacement card in 24 hours? Imagine if your wallet gets stolen when you are visiting a foreign country and you relied on your credit card to pay for 30-50% of your expenditure, you would be f-00-k! There has to be a better way!
