Arsenal's 15/16 Season

This morning was Day 1 of my #21day challenge to wake up at 4:30am. I have to admit I woke up at 5am and NOT 4:30am, I will attempt to do better tomorrow. Anyways I started to do some data entry for my Airbnb books then started to read some news; Arsenal news.

Over the years there has been a lot of complains and heartbreaks about Arsenal not winning the Premier League title or even qualify beyond round 16 in the Champions League. It would have been impossible since we are re-known of giving away points to unworthy teams such as Sunderland, Crystal Palace, West Ham United to name a few. Above all we lost to Watford to get knock out from FA Cup (we were champions!).

There has been many fans whom has criticised the vision of the new owners for where they are taking the direction of the club and also the stale tactics of yours trully Arsene Wenger (still the greatest manager in the world in my book). Prior to the recent David vs Goliath story for Leicester to win this years Premier League title, it has always been Chelsea/Man City/Man Utd/Liverpool in the running.

When you look at the likes of Man City and Chelsea whom has the backing of super rich owners enables the clubs to buy super star players and managers year in year out. Whereas Arsenal has always been hanging in 4th place on the table and one might claim quite reluctant to spend big during the summer transfer season. The biggest two recent transfer that Arsenal have made was for Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona (£35mil) and Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid (£42mil). Both super star players from two of the best team in the world.

As much money as we paid of both of them we have also sold the likes of Alex Song (£15mil), Thomas Vermaelen (£15mil), Robin van Persie (£22mil), Cesc Fabregas (£35mil), Samir Nasri (£22mil), Kolo Toure (£16mil), Adebayor (£25mil), and Gael Clichy (£7mil) with the last 4 names all going to Man City. According to the Mirror back in Feb 2015, Man Utd was in debt of £380 mil where as Arsenal had £138 mil in their reserve. With figures like this made available to fans; who is to blame for them being bitter when not winning the league. The fans wants to win games and titles and not about money in the bank or else the fans could have support Apple FC or Google FC instead.

This year we had the same fairy tale as any other season, at one stage we could have won the league until we bottle a few games up and gave Leicester a 10 point game and also our arch rival Tottenham Hotspur to sit above us on the table. FUN FACT, do you know it has been 21+ years and counting since they have finish the league above Arsenal! This year they had the chance to break that drought. I must say Spurs had one of their best season, even with equal points we would still finish behind them because they had 10+ goal difference until we took Aston Villa apart and they got annihilated by Newcastle.

It had to come down to the wire to find out if we had a chance. In short we had to win against Aston Villa (this bit wasn't hard; Aston Villa has had the worst season ever, but Arsenal is always famous for giving points to unworthy teams!) and Spurs had to lose against Newcastle. Aston Villa and Newcastle are 2 of 3 teams to be relegated this year regardless of how well they play therefore wishing for Spurs to lose is quite a stretch.

1-0 against Villa within 5' YAY! but Giroud converted again after 79'; dear oh dear in that hour long wait boy it was nerve wrecking as it looks like one of those days where our opposition could bag a goal with their first and only attempt of the entire game. During the first half I was constantly checking results of the Spurs game which ended 2-1, at the back of my mind surely Spurs will come back easily. 67' red card to Newcastle! WTF! WTFOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!

It was quite unbelievable when I saw 3-1 to Newcastle with 1 man down after Giroud bag his second. As happy as I was with the results, it wasn't until Giroud paraded his hat trick at Emirates where I reck'on all Arsenal fans celebrated as if we won the league.

FT Results
Arsenal 4 - 0 Aston Villa
Newcastle 5 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur

It is games like this that makes me walk tall wearing my jerseys!
