- Motorhead - Carpet Cleaning
- Fluffy - Hard floors
- Absolute - Both carpet and hard floor cleaning.
If you purchase the Absolute you get both the head attachments of the Motorhead and Fluffy. My girlfriend has always nag about getting one of these handstick models, since it is cordless it is easier to use and navigate around the house.
Last month I bite the bullet when there was a combo sale from The Good Guys and eBay. The Absolute has a RRP of $899; The Good Guys eBay store (TGG) usually list this model for $698 ($201 off). At the same time eBay had a 20% sale at participating online store and TGG happened to be one of them. I manage to pick this up for $558.40 which is a pretty good deal compared to paying $899.
What do you get in the box
I have only used this vacuum 3 times since I got it. Twice for cleaning my car and once for cleaning 2 large rooms in my house.
Before I start my review, the feedback that I have heard from owners of any handstick models are that they are the greatest tool ever. It is so convenient and easy to use. Now to answer this, is it the greatest tool ever? Is it convenient and easy to use?
I can't argue that the handstick design is very clever and it sure is easy to use. When you need to maneuver around corners or tight areas having the entire vacuum cleaner on your wrist makes it a lot easier. However with this convenience you lose out on power and time (how long you can use the vacuum for). Up to 20 minutes usage from a full charge (from to the website) however if you have the setting on "MAX" you only get 6 minutes (if I interpret it correctly).
When I was using the handstick there is no way you would want to use it without "MAX" mode especially if you are used with any barrel unit. Even with "MAX" mode on you can't get ALL stubborn rubbish off the carpets in the car. The only thing that would be useful is if you vacuum your car outside of the garage where there is no power outlets. I am happy with the barrel sitting outside of the car and using the hose + attachment to clean the interior of the car.
Last Sunday I vacuum 80% of my house with my faithful DC47 and I attempt to finish the living area with the handstick. Manourving the head attachment of the handstick is a little tricky but I managed to get the hang of it after a few minutes. You need some wrist strength to support the machine while vacuuming the area (since the battery only last for 20 minutes, you don't need to be superman to use this comfortably but I now know what my mom is commenting about when she got her DC45).
I like the new hard floor attachment has this fluffy carpet finishing that brushes micro dust on the floor but I still prefer the "crawler" that my DC47 came with.. I also like the fact that you can vacuum ceiling corners with ease however that is something that I don't do often to justify the cost of this unit.
In short, the handstick is a good product if you live in an apartment where the cleaning area is small and you don't have access to a lot of power outlets around. Again this product in my opinion is a bit steep at $899 however I have always seen it available at Myer for $200 off.
I am not an advocate for Myer nor do I get paid from Myer; however if you could double dip rewards in any purchase why wouldn't you? If you have a Diamond CBA AMEX card you can earn 3 points from the transaction and if you are a MyerOne member you also earn points and get rewarded after accumulating 2000 points. Win Win!
